Presidents Report

Peter Bonaccorsi

President

Can you believe it?  The 2007-2008 school year is almost over.  How do I know?  Simple!

First of all, it’s actually Spring.  It might not seem that way, but it is.  Next, we have all begun to receive resumes of candidates looking for jobs and requests for letters of recommendation from those who wish to work elsewhere.  But, most of all, the reason why I can say the school year is almost over is because the Kentucky Derby will be run on the first Saturday in May.  I’m not a fan of horse racing, but I know that every year the time between the Kentucky Derby and the end of the school year goes by in the blink of an eye.  Pay attention this year and see if it isn’t true.  So, hold on and prepare for a wild ride beginning after May 3rd.

Now that I’ve established that the school year is basically over (just ask any senior to confirm this fact), I thought it would be a good time to reflect upon my year as President of NHASP.  First and foremost, it has been an honor to serve and represent you.  When I assumed this position in June, I was unaware of exactly how involved I would become in the business of the Association.  Though I have been kept busy, I have never felt burdened by the responsibility and workload.  Just the opposite is true.  Being able to work with the dedicated members of the Executive Board, Peggy, the office staff (Pat and Sandy), and the general membership has made me appreciate what the Association does and stands for all that much more.  We do have a great group of administrators in New Hampshire.  For this opportunity, I say thank you.

I would like to single out Peggy McAllister, our Executive Director, for some special thanks.  When I was first became President, Peggy told me that my family and school came before the Association.  I appreciated those words but didn’t expect to have to apply them.  Unfortunately, the death of a student and a family illness caused me to miss some Association events.  Peggy supported my need to be elsewhere, and never asked for more than I could give.  Those of you who have needed Peggy’s assistance know exactly what I mean.  She cares about each and every member of this Association.  We are fortunate to have her.

To our current President-elect, Steve Guyer, I say get prepared for the best professional experience you may ever have.  Though the ride can be bumpy at times, it’s always a thrill, and very satisfying.  You will be representing the best principals’ association in the country.  Enjoy!

Lastly, though I will repeat this at our annual conference in June, I wish to thank everyone for their honest input, support, and confidence as I served as your President.  This position is not one that can be done alone.  The successes we have had this year are directly attributed to the membership and leadership, not the President.  I am simply the fortunate one who gets to represent all of you.  Again, thank you, and I look forward to seeing many of you at the Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods in June.
